The animals and plants of arctic region are known for their adaptations which protect them from the harsh weather.
Tundra biome animals and their adaptations. Animal adaptations in the tundra biome animals have many adaptations to survive in this harsh environment. The animals here tend to have thicker and warmer feathers and fur. It is able to keep its body temperature approximately 75ºf above.
They have short heavily furred, rounded ears (to protect from the cold). They have short tails and large, furry feet. Their coat changes color (in the summer the fur is reddish brown to act as a camouflage, and in the winter it turns white to blend into the snowy environment.
This limits the escape of body heat from the fox. This fur is shed during summer to prevent overheating and is thicker during winter to provide the most warmth possible. Since most of the plants require water, humidity, sunlight, fertile soil and other conditions for optimal growth, it’s really interesting to know that plants found in the tundra have some unique.
Arctic tundra animals do not enjoy the luxury of simply heading into thick forests to escape the biting wind. It can “shiver” to generate heat. Just as fur traps air and acts as an insulator in animals, hairy outgrowths on plants keeps their temperature more moderate and prevents freezing.
Adaptations can include such traits as narrow leaves, waxy surfaces, sharp spines and specialized root systems. Plant adaptations in the desert, rainforest and tundra allow plants and trees to sustain life. Animals that live in the tundra have special adaptations that allow them to survive the extreme temperatures and conditions that are present in a tundra.
But, sadly this particular biome's animals are quickly dying off from the melting snow from global warming or just humans killing either from weapons or pollution. Animals in the alpine tundra migrate to lower elevations in winter to escape the cold and find food. the polar bear is one of the animals that most people know are in the arctic( also tundra).
